Walgreens

Aug-28-2008 By Ashley

Walgreens had their Bic pens on sale 2/$1 and there were coupons out for $1/2 so I thought I would combine the sale with the coupon and get some close to free pens. Anytime I can do something to help out the teachers I will and this was one of those times. Here is how I did:

(10) Bic 8 pk pens – $5.00
Coupon used – $5.00
Subtotal – $00
Tax – .34
Total OOP .34

This is why I say almost free. You always have to pay taxes even if the products are free (at least I find I have to):).

JC Penney

Aug-28-2008 By Ashley

I have had my eye on the most beautiful bedding set but could never afford it. It retails for $335 and I just could not see spending that amount of money (which we could not do anyway) on bedding. We went into JC Penney on August 14 doing some school shopping and as usual my daughters needed to go potty. Since we had to walk right by the bedding department to take them I decided (after they went) to finally find out where their clearance section is. We saw they had their pillows on sale buy one get one for a $1 so we picked up 4 for $42. While searching through the clearance items I noticed the corner of a bedding set stuck behind another one and I pulled it out. Low and behold it was the bedding I had been wanting for more than 2 years. Here is a pic of it:

This had a clearance sticker of $161.99 on it but they also had an additional 50% off of that making it $80.99! While that is a good deal it just gets better. I filled out a survey online and for doing that they gave me a coupon for 15% off any purchase so I used it for this. This brought the total from $80.99 down to 68.84!!! So, for those of you trying to do the calculations that was an 80% savings off of the original retail price! I was super excited becuase I have wanted it for so long. Now, if only I could find a good deal on a new bedroom furniture set.

I wanted to take advantage of the Uncrustables sale while I had coupons to go with it. My kids love these sandwiches and they make for an easy lunch when I am in a rush. They also had their deli meat and cheese 8oz pkgs on sale b1g2 free. Here is what I managed to find:

(1) Black Forest Ham – 3.99
(1) Honey Ham – 3.99
(1) Swiss Cheese – 3.99
(1) Deli Creations – clearance – 2.69

We now have enough sandwiches and lunch meat to last us a good while.

Walgreens August 7

Aug-25-2008 By Ashley

I ran into Walgreens on this day just to check on a few deals they had advertised and of course they were sold out. I did manage to find these great items:

(2) Airwick Mini – clearance 3.99/each – 7.98
- (2) Airwick Mini printable coupons – $4.00/each -> -$8.00
Subtotal -> -.02
Tax – .54
Total OOP – .52

Here is the link for the printable coupons:
http://tinyurl.com/airwick

I thought these would qualify for the rebate but evidently they don’t because when I entered the receipt my EasySaver rebate page does not show this. Still not a bad deal considering these retail for $9.99 each. I had a savings of 101% (not including tax)!

Farm Fresh

Aug-24-2008 By Ashley

For three weeks out of the last month I have been shopping with Farm Fresh in Wilson, NC. They were competing with the Harris Teeter over there with triple coupons. The difference was Farm Fresh allowed 25 coupons in a single transaction and included $1 coupons. They also allowed as many transactions as you could do in a day! I racked up to say the least. I did not get to take any pictures because by the time I got home the groceries were in desperate need of getting into the fridge and freezer. I also don’t know what my exact savings were because my receipt only shows the sale prices not the reg retail price. Here is what my numbers looked like:

19 Transactions
Retail (sale) Total – 1191.08
Store Q’s – 581.55
Manufacturer Q’s – 477.45
Cat’s Earned – 14.50
Cat’s Used – 14.50
Q Total – 1059.00
Subtotal – 136.47
Tax – 17.91
Total OOP – 154.38
Total Savings – 1059.00
Percentage Saved – 87%

We have enough food to last us for at least 6 months! I am so glad these two stores opened within a month or so of each other because the customers have really been benefiting from the competitiveness between them. Harris Teeter tripled their coupons all summer and just recently stopped. I will be calling Farm Fresh every week to see if they are going to triple again.

Long Time No Update!!!

Aug-7-2008 By Ashley

Wow! There has been alot going on in my life lately. I have not updated my blog in a while. Lets see, where to begin…My DH had surgery on his knee (he is doing well), we went on vacation to the beach (just the girls!), my fridge went to fridge heaven (got a TERRIFFIC deal on a new one!) We were able to find a GE Profile Stainless Steel Side-by-Side digital 25.6 cu ft fridge that was a scratch and dent. The scratch is about 6 inches from the bottom on the side of the door (barely noticable) reg retail was 2599.00 and the clearance price was 1296.00. While that in itself seems like a good deal it gets even better my husband and FIL talked the manager down to $1000 even. There was a deal that was suposed to start two days later for no interest and no payments for 12 months BUT we were able to have that kicked in two days early. Not only did we get a 61% savings we got no interest and no payments for 12 months!!!

The girls, my aunt and I went to the beach for 4 days and we had a blast! We got tattoo’s (henna that is), played on the beach, played in the pool, and we went on this amazing outing to Shackleford Banks, NC. If you have never been there you should definitely take a trip. You can only access is by passenger ferry from Beaufort, NC. It is an island just 9 miles long with the most beautiful wild horses. In the 16th century these horses came from Spain via Hispanola. If you would like to learn more about it or view pictures visit here:

http://www.shacklefordhorses.org/stories/default.htm

This is definitely going to be on our trip agenda from now own.
